Young Writers Project is a Vermont nonprofit dedicated to helping kids become better writers. YWP engages them through Drupal-powered online writing communities and showcases work online, in newspapers (each week), on radio and on stage.
YWP's student site -- http://youngwritesproject.org -- has 4,100 Vermont users who post more than 250 posts and comments a day. The site has averages 16,000 visits a month; average visit time is about 11 minutes.
YWP also:
- Creates Drupal sites for schools to use as Digital Writing Centers; more than 25 schools participating: http://ywpvt.net
- Creates sites for special projects such as http://ballad.ywpvt.net for a ballad writing residency at two schools.
- Trains teachers in digital learning.
- Provides workshops for students, and
- Trains college students to be mentors online.
