iFactory and its team of web developers, graphic designers and 3D animators have pioneered the use of Web GL technology to enhance the web design of an eCommerce platform for international client TJM. To unite this primarily franchised business under one seamless platform, compete with automotive equipment manufacturers on an international scale, and target a largely male demographic, iFactory incorporated this new technology enabling online customers to modify their vehicles in real-time using trailblazing 3D visualisation of the vehicle and TJM chosen components.
The greatest challenge to this project was in developing realistic models of the vehicles and TJM’s components in 3D. iFactory’s 3D developers customised the emerging Web GL standards to enable a web browser access to the graphics card with TJM’s custom components. To establish this, the manufacturer’s original NURBS-based curve images and step files were opened in Autodesk 3D Studio Max to create polygon conversions of each product or vehicle. The result is an innovative, web browser-enabled 3D visualisation accessed by Web GL-enabled web browsers Chrome and Firefox on PC and Safari on Mac.
Due to TJM’s global audience and diverse user groups, iFactory also customised a geolocation setting that adjusts to show content, products, vehicle makes and models available and relevant to that region. Also, underwriting this interactive and real-time 3D shopping experience is a complex API integration with TJM’s ERP Pronto, which feeds inventory data and manages sales. Overall, this was an incredibly complex and rewarding project for the iFactory team, who demonstrated true innovation and skill to enhance the user experience for consumers online, improve online market opportunities and cut through market saturation.
