The climbers.org site is the home of the Toronto Section of the Alpine Club of Canada.
The site has been based on an involved, elegant mess of SSI for many years. The old site was complex to administer and easy to break. It was also large enough to make any site-wide changes virtually impossible to test. Drupal has provided a number of significant improvements.
- The mess can be cleaned up. Site organization features like taxonomy make the old static structure more plastic.
- The look and feel can be made consistent. There's only so much you can do with SSI, and every workaround amplifies the confusion. Drupal does not get confused.
- Contributions are easier. We have MANY folks without advanced HTML knowledge who can now (thankfully) add content.
- Great new features. With the entire drupal community helping to build modules, all the standard open source software development benefits now apply to this web site! Embedded Google maps? Oboy..... ;-)
